sony_ericsson_c901_greenheartIt seems like everything is going green these days, and cell phones are no exception.  To the left is one of Sony’s two new, greener cell phones.  This one is the Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart.  The other is the Sony Ericsson Naite Greenheart.

These eco friendly phones represents the first of a number of green features which are expected to appear within the next couple of years. The phones represent a joint effect between Ericsson, out of Sweden, and Sony out of Japan. The companies say that recycled plastic products make up fifty perfect or more of the phone. It also utilizes a light sensor with an optimized display. This helps the phone to use up less energy.

As well, the model pictured here — Sony Ericsson’s C901 GreenHeart is going to be shaded and colored with a waterborne paint. The paint is designed to reduce its exposure to VOC, or Volatile Organic Compounds.

A WalkMate application will also be included with this model. It will allow the phone’s users to see how many steps they walk every day and compare it to a car equivalent. Similarly, the Naite comes with an application, the Ecomate, designed to aid users in making better, eco friendly choices. The Naite also includes a special Carbon Footprint Calculator. It shows users the amount of CO2 they can save when they choose to walk instead of drive.
